Count Down! | Maternity
March 1, 2010For quite a long time now I’ve been wanting to do a maternity shoot at the base of a waterfall. I had a particular picture in my head but I needed a very willing pregnant woman! Last year when I found out one of my dearest friends was expecting her third, I knew she’d be up for anything I threw at her. We finally got our butts up to the waterfall I wanted to use yesterday and went on the long trek through the rain forest to get there. We really have left it until the last minute, because Manda’s little one will be here Thursday morning!
I’m so thankful to Manda who was such a trooper yesterday, I doubt I would have found another pregnant woman willing to endure what she did for my artistic vision yesterday! Not only did she have to trek through a rainforest heavily pregnant with me, she had to scale an enormous fallen tree trunk, balance and slosh through the base of the waterfall on slippery rocks to get from spot to spot, and sit in chilly water all while the rain decided to start pouring down on our heads.. I nearly slipped over a took a dive myself a few time’s, by the time we’d finished (mainly because my camera was soaked and there were far too many spectators!) I was absolutely soaked. We then had to make the long difficult up hill trek back to the car in pouring rain, wet, muddy and tired! I was exhausted, and I’m not the pregnant one!
I was actually joined by two photographers there, and I was asked if they could shoot some pictures over my shoulder while I was working which was cool. I noticed that the guy (they were husband and wife I think!) was taking a few photos of me working, I must have looked like a real goose! I was actually hoping to exchange emails with them so I could see some of the shots they took from where they were, but unfortunately they headed off before I was out of the water, and the sound of the falls was so loud that I couldn’t grab their attention before they went. Hello if you’re out there! If the lovely man and woman who we met at the base of the falls read this, please do drop me an email!
This shot was the reason that I wanted to do this shoot. I’ve had it in my head for a long time and I’m so happy I finally got to do it.. It’s not perfect, there’s a few things I would have liked to change, but I think it’s definitely my favorite from the day!

Manda was always a little concerned about how her belly was going to look in the photos.. I think she’s got an awesome bump! I won’t disclose her age (she’d kill me!) but wow, for her third pregnancy at her age, she looks great! I wish i would have looked that awesome with my first one lol.

The water was so chilly, so thanks Manda for sitting down for me!

Good luck Thursday Manda, I can’t wait until you have your beautiful little bundle safely in your arms, and I’m dying to find out what it is! I do have a hunch myself, but it’ll be great for it to be confirmed! Stay tuned for baby C or baby G when it’s born this week!
