Photo of the Day: 30 | Personal Work
January 31, 2010*My POTD Journey.. For the next month, I’ll be attempting to take a photo a day of my family, daughter, or activities we do.*
Day 30:
Unfortunately we’ve had some incredibly sad news today. We received a message when we got home that Dan’s grandfather was very ill and was expected to pass soon, but by the time we had arrived home and called, he’d already passed away. I never met him, but Dan’s told me many stories about him. He hasn’t been able to see his grandfather in a long time, and of course now it’s impossible and he’s so very sad tonight.. He had lived a long life and passed at the age of 92, leaving many children, grand children, and also great grandchildren behind. R.I.P Louie. My thoughts are with Dan and his family, I’m sure they’ll all miss him dearly.
On that same train of thought, I was sitting at a cafe with my friend Manda the other day, when this little frail old lady approached us and spoke to her about her pregnancy. She was just the most sweet natured lady, but gosh, she reminded me so much of my own grandma who passed away a year and a half ago. My heart still aches for her, she was one of my most favorite people in the world and I still miss her dearly. A week hasn’t gone by when I haven’t thought about her. I don’t know what I believe about the afterlife, but if “the other side” exists, I hope she’s there to meet me when my turn comes!
Well, I know this blog post has been somewhat full of sorrow, but it is what it is I guess. I do have one quirky little thing to share though. Today while we were out shopping, we were sitting at some tables in a food court when a big blow fly caught our attention. It was buzzing around on the table beside us, sorta minding its own business when this little fly buzzes along and lands beside it. Well, I think he was just sizing the blow fly up, because no sooner had he landed and looked, he jumped into the air and literally pounced onto the big blowfly! this little guy was seriously going to take on this big fly!! I must admit, it was SO humorous to watch, I’ve never seen a little bitty fly attack a big one before. It had us quite amused for a little while, and Gwen thought it was spectacularly funny.
Look at them! The little one lands, checks him out, then takes off, only to bomb dive him and try to beat him up! He kept bullying the bigger fly for a good 5-10 minutes lol

And just because I can, here’s a photo of Gwen with her Daddy. I wasn’t going to take a photo of them, but Dan asked me to and I’m glad he did.. It’s one of my favorites of the two of them together yet.

Once we’d gotten home and Dan had received the news on his Grandfather, I took Gwen outside to blow some bubbles to give him some time alone. It worked well for me, because all I had for my POTD was some a snapshot, and some photos of some lousy flies lol!

I love the colours the bubbles reflect. Some bubble mixes don’t show much colour, but this one was great! On another note, Dan seen this shot when I processed it, and proclaimed that Gwen looked like a monkey.. Nice! It’s hard to look good when you’re blowing bubbles!

Every time she blew some bubbles, she made a mad dash to run around and pop them all…

… But occasionally, some got away!

But thats ok, because we can always blow some more!

Check them out! She was blowing with all her might here. I love how the bubbles never, ever look the same.

Our little friend come to say hello again!

Hah! I laughed when I seen this one, she looks so crazy lol.

The wind gave her a helping hand on this one..

It felt like we were going to be blown sideways, the bubbles got carried away the moment they were blown.

And there’s the look of surprise when the fly off so fast and hard that she has no chance in the world of catching them!

She’s quite cranky here, because the little bottle of bubble mix was empty and she’d run out of mix in her dish.
